This skill is mainly useful for repairing things, but is also needed to advance in some careers and majors [TS2:U]. If Open for Business is installed, it helps in building the Robotics and Toy Making Talent badges. A Sim's mechanical skill determines the chance of getting electrocuted when attempting to repair a broken electrical or electronic object.
If the The Sims 2: FreeTime is installed, studying the mechanical skill from a book will increase a Sim's enthusiasm for the Tinkering hobby.
Ways to increase Mechanical
- Reading a book
- Learned by repairing broken items
- Tinkering on items.
- Repair the One Man's Junk Car* in Hobbies tab. [TS:FT] Gives you Tinkering Hobby enthusiasm as well.
- Using the TraumaTime "Incision Precision" Surgical Training Station from the Medical career.
* Once the car is repaired you can sell it for $5,400 (Costing $800). The car has the same effects as the Yomoshoto Evasion Car (Comfort=6, Energy=2, Fun=5).
